Video content crucial to reach people who don`t go to church
The Methodist Church of Great Britain has found that video content of their recent Christmas film published on 23rd November performed very well on social media. The short film “Out of the Ordinary” has been shared on different social media platforms “to reach audiences who don`t go to church”.
The church`s communication strategy is using social media creatively to share their message with new audiences. The biggest audience of the church is on Facebook currently, but it`s a big potential in branching out to other platforms, according to Katie Lamb, social media coordinator of the Methodist Church.

“We've just released our Christmas film, which is a short film that we put on all of our different platforms. Then we made some shortcuts of that to share on TikTok, reels and everything like that as well,” said Katie.
Its events play a key role to communicate effectively, where the communication team advertise them with the online world. When it comes to digital evangelism, events are a great opportunity “Where people might find God in those events.”
Meanwhile, the Methodist Church's content is focused on topics like social justice and accessibility that resonate with young people.
“And I think that message is something that is really important, and a lot of people are thinking about social justice in their wider lives," she added.
Rather than direct Bible quotes, they share prayers relating to real-world issues that people are thinking about.
“We have our prayer for the day's content. Every morning we have a prayer on all of our different platforms. If there are specific days that we think that we would like to pray for those days,” said Katie Lamb.
The Methodist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination in Britain. It is Wesleyan in its theology and practice and the fourth-largest Christian group in Britain.
