We're beginning with the C word... no, not *that* C word, the other one, the one that's been plaguing every news headline in sight. Yes you guessed it, Coronavirus. Last month the term “coronavirus” became the second-most common word on block lists for news publishers, according to Integral Ad Science data. The pace of the blocking appears to be accelerating and more advertisers are adding the word to their lists as the volume of content about the outbreak grows. Secondly, we look at Apple's new app store guidelines which allows app publishers to send ads and promotions in push notifications to users who have opted in to receive them. Mobile marketing experts are hopeful the changes could help improve user loyalty within apps but also voice concerns that the increase in notifications will result in users uninstalling apps. And finally, Instagram influencers are beginning to get more conscious of their sponsored posts. An increasing number of users are beginning to put their own placeholders before and after their sponsored posts, similar to an ad break on TV, in the wake of criticism that influencers often don’t clearly label marketing posts.
